Obama/Trump and the Iran war
Obama has
criticized Trump’s diplomatic strategy regarding the Iran war, describing his
administration as ‘not serious people’ and pointing out that the main
problem is that the rest of us pay the price ultimately for their lack of
seriousness. He also criticized Trump for ignoring, or unravelling, diplomacy
as he plunged the U.S. into an unnecessary conflict. Although the Iran war
isn’t on a grand scale, the

U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran began in late
February and have continued for nearly eight months, causing the deaths of 21
American service members with 865 wounded. The conflict has caused Iran to
close the Strait of Hormuz leading directly to higher global oil and diesel
prices. Obama said
the Iran war could have been avoided because his [Obama’s] administration 2015
Iran Nuclear Deal prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. However, Trump
had withdrawn the U.S. from the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2018 saying it allowed
Iran to continue enriching uranium. Meanwhile, U.S. polls show
widespread voter desire to end the war and dissatisfaction with Trump's tactics.

There have also been renewed questions on social media about Trump's mental state. During a recent Press session, Trump repeatedly snapped at Andrew Feinberg, The Independent's White House correspondent, ordering him 'to pipe down', warning him to 'be careful' and labelling him 'a sick person'. "Wait, wait, wait, wait. Quiet, quiet!" Trump said as he sat behind the Resolute Desk. "What's wrong with you? Are you a sick person? I actually think there's something wrong with you." |
| Obama, campaigning. |
Huge turnout for rallies for former President, Barack Obama, in Ohio and Michigan last Saturday illustrated the changing mood of the country. In Cleveland, Obama rallied voters behind Democratic candidate for the U.S.Senate, Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial candidate, Amy Acton. In Michigan, he rallied voters for Democratic Jocelyn Benson, current secretary of state for Michigan and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. Obama told the listeners that El-Sayed was "fighting for change, real change, that will get money out of politics into your pocket. It would finish the job we started with the Affordable Care Act and guarantee quality, affordable healthcare to every single American." He called out Trump's corruption, "enriching himself and his family" and selling favours.

Obama also poked fun at Trump, belittling Trump's fight with "t
hat well-known evil empire, Canada" subtly reminding listeners of Ronald Reagan's phrase, "
evil empire" to describe Russia, Trump's current partner. He also ridiculed Trump's White House projects, saying he should be on HGTV, a cable network which focussed on home improvement and interior design. Trump has had the East Wing of the White House demolished to make room for a huge, opulent ballroom lavishly decorated with gold: has had the Rose Garden paved over with the installation of two statues: has replaced columns in the North Portico in the White House grounds and has made liberal use of gold in the refurbished decor overall. It has been suggested that her has tried to turn the White House into a version of his mansion at Mar-a- Lago.
